Classic Oils is a company offering a complete range of oils, lubricants and other accessories for all classic, veteran and vintage vehicles, including motorcycles, steam vehicles and earlier diesel engines.

Classic Oils trade standModern lubricants do not suit older vehicles since they are designed for fuel efficiency, emissions control and extended change intervals. Older vehicles were designed before the advent of this technology, and therefore they require oils specially blended to match their needs. Changes to the anti-wear additives in modern engine oil formulations can have a serious effect on older engine designs, such as accelerated camshaft / cam follower wear.

Historically, the anti-wear additive used in the majority of formulations was a zinc / phosphorous based compound known as ZDDP (Zincdialkyldithiophosphate). Unfortunately ZDDP has a detrimental effect on sensitive exhaust emission systems on modern cars, so it has been phased out by oil companies, while engine designs have been changed to accommodate the removal of ZDDP. These oils, while performing well in modern engines designed for them, can cause substantial and accelerated wear in older engines.

Classic Oils specialises in supplying a range of Penrite, Morris, Millers, Castrol and Comma products, designed and blended for older vehicles. These products provide increased protection, more consistent oil pressure and ingredients to reduce sludge deposits within the engine. Oil manufacturers that we are proud to represent include:

  • Penrite of Australia manufacture blends of oils from 1900 to 1979, including some very broad spectrum classic multigrades.
  • Morris Lubricants of Shrewsbury manufacture blends of oils from 1930 to the present day including steam oils.
  • Millers Oils is another British company, with a wide range of lubricants including semi-synthetics for classic vehicles.
  • Comma Oil is also British and independent, and supplies multi and monograde oils in familiar metal containers.
  • Castrol Classic Oils is a division of BP, and still produces many blends recommended by name in the original vehicle handbooks.

Virtually every product requirement is met by these manufacturers for engine transmission, shock absorbers, steering boxes, gearboxes, carburettors, 2 and 4-stroke motorcycles, and general purpose. In addition a range of grease products are offered for water pumps, bearings, rubber and other specialist purposes.

All Classic Oils are supplied pre-packed in approved containers, and are normally available from stock. They can be collected from our shop, or delivered by our approved carrier (for an additional charge), or purchased from the many auto-jumble fairs that we attend - payment can be made by cash, card or Paypal. We are VAT registered and VAT receipts can be supplied for all purchases.

We also stock oil drain pans and drip trays to collect the old and waste oil from the engine. By law, any used oil must be disposed of safely and environmentally in approved Council Waste Depots.
